R & R Aquatics Summer Swim Team

Welcome to the R&R Summer swim and dive program!  In advance, we would like to thank you for your support.  Together, we can make this an exciting and positive experience for your child.  Listed below are several topics we would like to cover with you, and for you to discuss with your child: benefits, schedules, regulations, and class structure.
BENEFITS
Your child will receive the following benefits:
                    -enhanced swimming abilities
                    -increase in endurance
                    -improvement in self-esteem and self-confidence
                    -great preparation for competitive swimming
-proper stroke techniques for freestyle, backstroke,
                     breastroke, and butterfly
-proper techniques for starts, turns and finishes for
                     competitive swimming
SCHEDULE
The summer practices will be held 4:30pm - 5:30pm on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays, until school is out, then Mondays - Fridays, 7:45am -9:00am. Please refer to calendar.
-Class begins promptly at 4:30pm/7:45am.  Please be on time!

-Please do not arrive earlier than 4:15pm as there may
not be supervision and/or an open facility before
4:15pm.  With morning practices, gates open at 7:30am.

-When entering the pool area, your child will need to
obtain equipment, and then proceed to his/her designated lanes.

-Swimmers must not enter the water until instructed by a coach.

-Parents may view the class from the upstairs area; please no parents or visitors on deck

REGULATIONS
We would like the parents to help us with behavior and compliance.  Please have your child be courteous to his/her teammates and coach by following these rules:
                    -no dunking or splashing
-no misuse of equipment or facility
-no pushing teammates into the pool
-no talking or going under water while your coach is talking or giving instructions
-most importantly, listen and look at your coach while he/she is teaching

In addition, we encourage swimmers to wear goggles.  Those swimmers with long hair need to wear a swim cap or pull hair back with a scrunchie or barrette. Team swim caps are required for meets. With all of this in mind, class instruction and meets can be most beneficial to all learners.
CLASS STRUCTURE
Groups will be organized according to age and/or ability.  This process may take up to 2 weeks.  Class structure will include a warm-up, conditioning, and instructions on stroke techniques as well as starts, turns and finishes.  Age groups are 8& under, 9-10, 11-12, 13-14, 15-17, 18 & over.  Refer to order of events.
Swim-a-Cross
Every year we conduct a swim-a-cross with the help and support of American Red Cross.  R&R Aquatics keeps 50% of the money raised while the other 50% goes to American Red Cross to help other learn to swim programs. The swimmers are asked to raise a minimum of $40.00 and in return they will receive a t-shirt.  Other prizes are available according to the amount of money raised. The swim-a-cross is conducted during practice time and will be used as part of our summer training. The goal is to swim a minimum of 50 lengths continuous and no more than 100 lengths in the time allotted, 7:45am - 9:00am. See calendar for date of swim-a-thon.
We keep a count of laps and turn it into the American Red Cross representative after swimming.  You may bring a friend or family member to help count laps for you.  The money collected is turned in by the following week and all awards are distributed at our R&R party. See calendar for date.
Texas Swim Shop
Texas Swim Shop is our supplier.  They will be here for the CCAA Champs meet and the TAAF Regional meet.  You may also contact them at 713-723-0910. They will also be here selling team suits at the start of the summer season.  See calendar for date.
Team Pictures
We will have team and individual pictures taken during practice time in June (see calendar for date), starting at 7:30am.  We will have swimming after the picture taking, if time permits.  We ask that all swimmers be dressed in the team suit; we want all our swimmers in the group picture (regardless of whether you plan to buy pictures). Order forms will be handed out prior to picture date.
Regular Meets

All regular meets will be held on Saturdays with warm-up starting at 7:30am and the meet starting at 8:30am.  Most of the regular meets will be finished by noon.

Ribbons are given to 1st -3rd place finishes and times are kept for all swimmers.  We attempt to give out a blue participation ribbon to all swimmers, regardless of place. Everyone swims and everyone will receive their ribbons at the meet.  Those swimmers who place top 3 overall in an event will receive an additional special ribbon on Mondays after practice. (Each team is allowed to score only 2 in every event)
